LAN/WAN SOLUTIONS

ICS is a full service LAN/WAN Networking Partner for your organization. We focus on reducing your costs through better utilization of your network. Although NEC is our main product line, we work great with Cisco and Avaya networks.

NEC has been in the Data Networking business for well over a decade. In fact, as members of the ITU (International Telecommunications Union), we helped to define the standards for Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and we continue to be active participants in the ATM Forum.

With a broad base of switch fabrics ranging from 2.5 Gbps to 40 Gbps and a wide array of interfaces, including OC-48, we are in a unique position to provide the Quality of Service necessitated by the movement toward converged infrastructures. Yet we also recognize and support the increasing globalization of the Internet Protocol (IP) and we accordingly offer migration strategies for integrating ATM and IP networks.

The widespread deployment of the Internet and other (private) IP networks has accelerated the need for IP switches and routers. In anticipation of this event, NEC several years ago began development of a new series of products to accommodate this requirement. These products are the BlueFireT series of MultiService IP routers and level2/level 3 switches. These solutions are one aspect of our general initiative for implementing the evolution to IP Telephony called NEON: NEC's Enterprise Open Network. (See NEON, IP Telephony and Networking.)

Two of the major issues confronting IP Telephony in the past have been Quality of Service (QoS) and Security. BlueFire products support MultiService QoS over Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) utilizing IP Security Encryption (IPSec). This capability allows users to maximize the benefits of converged voice and data (see Networking) while minimizing their security vulnerability.

IP Version 4 (IPv4) is the release of the Internet Protocol currently in common use; however, it must eventually be replaced because it has a serious limitation on the number of addressable IP objects it will support. Its successor, IP Version 6 (IPv6), expands the address space from 32 bits to 128 bits, making the number of addressable IP objects practically limitless and also making room for enhanced QoS parameters. Even though IPv6 usage may not immediately become widespread in the U. S., it is beginning to see considerable deployment in other parts of the world which have received a more limited allocation of IPv4 public addresses.

Accordingly, our BlueFire MultiService IP Routers and Switches support IPv6 (in addition to IPv4), and they do so "in silicon," making them faster, more efficient and more reliable than software implementations. Thus our customers can buy BlueFire products now, assured that they can migrate to IPv6 when their networking environment necessitates it.
The Data Networking strategy includes:

NEAX 2000 IPS
NEAX IPXDM
BlueFire IX5000 Series
BlueFire 700 Series
NETNEX ATM Products
NEAX 2400 IPX
